Scout Sunday is February 15, 2009 at Hartford Memorial Baptist Church

Sunday, February 15th is Scout Sunday for all boys of Pack and Troop 647 at Hartford Memorial Baptist Church.

We encourage scouts and their families to attend the 11am worship services and we would like each scout to be in full uniform. Each scout attending the worship service will earn a "God and Me" pin.

Whether families attend Hartford Church this Sunday or not, we ask that each cub or scout wear his uniform to his family place of worship this Sunday.

Pack 647 Scout finalist in Detroit Area Boy Scouts Art Contest

On Thursday, February 5, the Detroit Area Council held a reception for finalists in the Detroit Area Boys Scouts of America Annual "Visions of Youth Art Contest" . The contest celebrates the Detroit Area Council's 99th birthday by having cub scouts in the Detroit Council draw art that pertains to this year's contest theme "How Scouting Can Help Preserve Our World for The Future".

The reception was attended by the top 3 finalists in each age group and their families. Darryl M. from Pack 647 was a contest finalist in the 8 year old category. The reception included a presentation by local Detroit artist Hubert Massey. Mr. Massey has created some of the major mural art for buildings in the City of Detroit, including the art in the floor of the Charles Wright Museum of African American History.

Mr. Massey showed the kids a slide presentation of his art pieces around the city. Mr Massey does all kinds of artwork from Italian frescoes to murals to stained glass. All the boys asked lots of questions and they were really impressed by his art work. All the top three contestants from each category and their families will have the opportunity take an art tour with Mr. Massey to see all of his artwork in Downtown Detroit.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- February 4, 2009 – As a result of the expansion of Peanut Corporation of America’s (PCA) Salmonella related recall to include all peanut ingredient products produced in their Blakely, Georgia facility since January 1, 2007, Weaver Popcorn Company has issued a precautionary voluntary recall for the following product:

• 9.5 oz. Trail’s End® Caramel Corn with Peanuts, with code date markings of “102861 109 JAN 19 08” through “102861 297 JUL 23 09”.

No other Trail's End or Weaver Popcorn Company products are part of this recall.

"Although Weaver Popcorn has received no complaints or reports of any illness related to this product, we are taking this precautionary action out of an abundance of caution and consistent with our 80-year unwavering commitment to consumer safety and to providing the highest-quality products," said Mike Weaver, Weaver Popcorn Company President and CEO.

Since the vast majority of this product has not been sold for a number of months, it is assumed that what has been sold has been consumed. Consumers who have purchased this recalled product are urged to destroy it. Consumers with an unopened, sealed popcorn foil bag, with the above listed code dates, can arrange for a refund by calling 1-800-782-4255 (Monday through Friday from 8:00am – 3:00pm EST) or by sending an email to ccp@trails-end.com
